Review of Prasso Ministries - Teen Edition

For the past 23 years, Prasso Ministries has helped many people examine their lives and relationship with God. They offer Bible studies for women, men, and teens and an online course. We had the opportunity to review their teen study which included two sets of books - the Teen Prasso Teacher’s Manual and the Homework Manual. 

“Prasso” is a Greek word meaning to practice, to form a routine, or to perform repeatedly and habitually and that's exactly what this teen study offers. The Homework Manual continually points your student back to God's Word. It is consumable so you will need one for each of your students to fill in. It sells for $15 and comes in spiral bound form.

The course is designed with a small group setting in mind but we found it to be easily adaptable to our homeschool environment. The Teen Prasso Teacher’s Manual contains a teaching outline of the 13 lessons. It is set up to be done in a weekly format but we took 2 weeks to complete one lesson. It also includes tips for asking good discussion questions as well as great tips in how to deal with a diverse group. It can be used over and over again for each of your students. It sells for $35 and comes in spiral bound form.

The weekly format consists of three elements:

• The Weekly Teaching Lesson - this if found in your teacher's manual with complete outline details including teaching tips, message goals, discussion points, and prayer reminders. During the 13 Lessons, you will follow the journey of faith between two boys, Derek and Brandon. The stories include some of the same obstacles that teenagers today are facing and offer a great opportunity for discussion with your teenager.
• The Daily Homework Manual also called the Student Journal - this is where your student will spend the majority of their time. It includes a weekly memory verse and questions of truth to answer and apply in their daily lives. The lessons can be completed in less than 20 minutes per day and often have your student writing out Bible verses. 
• The Weekly Discussion - This is a time of discussion between you and your teenager. It is a time where they can ask any questions they may have about the lesson and a time to answer how they can apply what they are learning in each lesson. There are also a group of discussion questions listed in the student journal to help you get the discussion flowing.

In Our Homeschool
I decided to use this study with my oldest who is currently in 11th grade.  He has completed many different types of Bible studies and said, "this was his favorite format".  He liked that we had the opportunity to discuss the questions together and that it didn't take up a large portion of his day.

As I stated earlier, we took two weeks to complete a lesson and that schedule worked great for us. We did the study 4 days per week using the following schedule.

1st Week
Monday - Weekly Teaching Lesson
Tues- Thursday - Daily Student Journal

2nd Week
Monday -Wednesday - Daily Student Journal
Thursday - Group Discussion Questions

I love that I can continue to use this study with my other two children as well by just repurchasing additional student journals.

Family Fun

Sarah and I had a fun time with friends getting our crazy hair on for a Secret Keeper Girl event.  She did mine and I did hers.  

In our homeschool

Still plugging along with our memorization of James.  Here was a great incentive idea to keep review time sweet.  We put a few little candies inside a pill box that I picked up from Dollar Tree.

A glimpse at a white board day.  We are still using Analytical Grammar along with the new Fix It Grammar book (review coming soon).  Love them both!

Sarah and I had a fun time studying all about birds this week and enjoyed a few fun activities.  It gave us a chance to work on some chalk pastels from Nana at Hodgepodge - love! 

I had to get in on the fun too so this is mine.  

My goal is to get more pictures of my high schooler in action but then I forgot my middle schooler.  Oh well, maybe between the weeks, I can get a few pictures of some of them.

Just for fun - proof that he does do something around the house - heehe.

Finished Almost Home - it was so good!  MFW read alouds always make me cry, lol.

Currently reading Amos Fortune, free man which is already leading up to be another wonderful book.

Review: Micro Business For Teens

I can't believe that we now have 2 teens in our house!  Life is definitely changing for us and for them as well.  When we received Micro Business For Teens, I knew I wanted my then 15 year old, Jonathan, to start it first.  He is now 16 years old.

We received Starting a Micro Business, Running a Micro Business, and the Micro Business for Teens Workbook in Ebook format to review.  These books are recommended for ages 10-18.  

So, what is a Micro Business?  They are usually small home based businesses that are easy to start and have very low economical risk such as babysitting, yard maintenance, website design, etc.

As a parent, I have always wanted to teach my children to have a good work ethic no matter what they are doing.  Jonathan has been cutting grass for his grandmother since he was 13 and she was his 1st employer. If the job wasn't done right, his pay was affected.  So, he already had a foot in the door for a micro business but Micro Business For Teens really taught him how to take it a step further.  I read along with him and learned so much for myself as well.  I'm always looking for extra income for our family and a micro business sounds like a great fit for stay at home moms too!

In this book you will learn exactly what a micro business is and you are given a few ideas of actual micro businesses.  This book really makes your teen think about the advantages of a micro business but also helps them to foresee any pitfalls that may happen.  They will learn how to write their own business plan, gain encouragement on how to start a business with minimal debt, learn how to calculate their start up costs and so much more. Scattered throughout the text are examples of true life examples of students who have started their own micro businesses successfully.  In fact, a whole chapter is filled with websites your student can visit to help them get started.  Overall, this book gives lots of encouragement and practical steps for your teen to begin their own micro business including scripture quotes.   Jonathan found it very encouraging and a great guide to assist him in growing his business.

In this book, your teen will learn more about business concepts.  They will learn about sales presentation, marketing, record keeping, time management, legal names, and more.  Included are websites on starting your own blog, newsletter, ezines, etc.  It is full of information on how to run your own business.  It's like a mini business manual!  

This book contains some of the same information that I was taught while taking a small business and tax course at our community college! The price is incomparable for all the information and concepts you are taught!

This book is where you will find all of your student sheets for Starting a Micro Business and Running a Micro Business.  I really liked having the PDF copies so that we could print out what we wanted.  

Here is sample sheet where Jonathan practiced filling in an invoice for his micro business (please excuse the boy craziness).  This was a pretend invoice but his rates were what he would normally charge and it was fun to see he included a large yard and a small yard in the fees.

I look forward to going through this curriculum with all my children!  They saw him filling out the invoice and have already been talking about what businesses they can start too!
