And We Have A Winner!!

Here is how we chose the winner.  After reading Kelly's post at Loving Life's Little Moments and how she chose I decided to go with something similiar.  And I won the grammar book there too!!  So excited!!

So, here is how we chose.  I let each kid choose a number from 1-77 since that was how many comments there were minus my comment =)  So I guess we had actually had semifinalist.  The seimifinalist were #6 (Stephen's choice), #30 (Sarah's choice), and #13 (Jonathan's choice).  Then we put those 3 numbers in a cup and I drew the winner.

And the winner was.......................

#30   Amanda who said  "My son loves little books like this and he is always so proud that he read a whole book to me! These would be great for encouraging him in his abilities."

Congratulations Amanda!  I have emailed you!  And thanks so much to everyone who participated.  This was really a lot of fun!

Weekly Wrap-Up - Week #32

Weird, Unsocialized Homeschoolers

This week started with a fun girl's half a day out!  Sarah and I had hair appointments and met up with a friend for lunch.  She even learned a little about cosmetology school =)

and I went for highlights this time!

We continued with our same Bible memory verse this week.

1 Thessalonians 4:16-28........

"For the Lord himself will come down from heaven with a commanding shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trumpet call of God. First, the Christians who have died will rise from their graves. Then, together with them, we who are still alive and remain on the earth will be caught up in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. Then we will be with the Lord forever. So encourage each other with these words."

I took a few pictures of Sarah in action this week. Here she is using the All About Spelling letter tiles.  We all love those!

Here she is making words using the Phonics Activities game that we were given last week.  Great fun and super for reinforcement!

We also did a ladybug study this week.

And went outside for a backyard nature study!

Ladybug transfer!

Along the bottom of our garage their are hundreds of ladybugs all the way around.  It was kind of cool, kind of creepy too, lol.
A closer look...all those spots are lady bugs!

And even closer...you can see the larva and pupa stages!  So cool!!
 And I'm free!!

And finally a few garden shots!  Corn and tomato plant complete with a lady bug =)

Weekly Wrap-Up - Week #31

Weird, Unsocialized Homeschoolers

Since all three kids are pretty advanced in Math, we skipped our Abeka Math this week to concentrate more on a few struggling areas.  We continued with phonemic awareness activities, reading, reading, and more reading.

Our Bible memory verse this week was from
1 Thessalonians 4:16-28........

So encourage each other with these words."  And of course we ended that with a Hallelujah!

We also finally got our garden tilled and planted this week!

One of our veteran homeschool mother's was cleaning out her goodies this week so we stopped by to see what we could find and ended up with all these goodies which we put to work right away =)

Quizmo is an addition/subtraction game like bingo.
This is Brain Quest which we also already love!

Weekly Wrap-Up - Week #30

Weird, Unsocialized Homeschoolers

Opps...didn't update for week 30 in time last week.  It was a spring time week for sure.  We just did the essentials.  I did spend some time testing the kids on sight words, phonemic awareness, and reading comprehension as well.

We'll be continuing those skills for the next months too.

Weekly Wrap Up - Week #29

Weird, Unsocialized Homeschoolers

Oh, the glorious days of spring have certainly arrived in Eastern North Carolina!

We had a productive school week this week.  We even doubled up a little so that we could take off today and Monday.

After much praying and many discussions, hubby and I have decided to join our local Classical Conversations group.  The kids were really excited when we told them!

My cold that I caught last week while camping with the Cub Scouts in freezing temperatures is much better today too!

So, all in all I'd say this was a very good week.

But most of all, we got to celebrate that our Savior lives!!  We went through our Resurrection Eggs this week too.  We have two sets of homemade ones and also a set that we purchased.  The kids love them!  Our annual tradition is to hide and find them on Easter.  Then the kids tell us what each symbol represents according to the egg that they found.

Happy Easter!!
